Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative is composed of 75 organic farmers in Lancaster County, PA, all sharing the mission to cultivate healthy, high-quality foods from small-scale family farms. They serve all of Eastern Pennsylvania, New York City and most of the tri-state area, connecting farmers and customers and delivering the best local and organic produce and humanely raised animals. Zone 7’s mission is to strengthen our local and regional food chain by helping restaurants, grocers and other organizations support small- and medium-scale sustainable farms. Founded in 2008, they were created to deliver the highest-quality ingredients New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania have to offer to chefs and everyday consumers week after week. With each order, customers have their pick of 25 farms worth of local, seasonal products, all within 48 hours of harvest. Find more Zone 7 info at their site.

What:  The Mid-Atlantic Conference for Start-Up Food Co-Ops

When:  Saturday, April 16, 2011 8:30am-5pm

Where:  Philadelphia, PA

A new wave of food co-op formation is sweeping the country. In the Mid-Atlantic region at least 17 groups are in the process of organizing consumer retail food co-ops in their communities. The Mid-Atlantic Conference for Start-up Food Co-ops will provide information on the fundamentals of building successful member-owned enterprises.

This is an important event for all JC Food Co-Op Owners to gather crictical information, learn from established Co-Ops and network and assist other member-owners in their pursuits.

The JCFC is a member of MAFCA (Mid-Atlantic Food Co-Op Alliance) and will be arranging car pooling to the conference.  Please contact events@jcfoodcoop.coop if you are interested in attending.

A night of elegance, ambience, social action and community to celebrate Earth Hour and raise funds for the Preshop.

For one hour at 8:30pm, March 26th, Made with Love and JCFC will be shutting down all power at 530 Jersey Avenue to join in the world’s largest public action for the environment.

During that hour, JCFC will be hosting an intimate candlelight Spanish dinner, courtesy of Celeste Governanti’s many culinary talents, and featuring organic and local ingredients from the JCFC PreShop.

The evening will be accompanied by an acoustic folk/jazz session by Flotilla and special guest artist, Julieanne Klein; broadcasts of Earth Hour from around the world; and discussions about raising community awareness on sustainability issues in Jersey City.

Our Earth-Hour Menu:

~Tapas~
Aceitunas Mixtas -  mixed Spanish olives
Tortilla Moderna – potato tortilla, a modern twist on an old classic
Chorizo/Garbanzos – Spanish sausage atop chick pea salad in sherry vinaigrette

Quinoa/Garbanzos – Chick peas in a Spanish sherry vinaigrette over a salad of organic quinoa

~Main course~
Paella Clasica – a traditional seafood & chicken paella

Paella Vegetariana Clasica – a delicious vegetarian variation on the classic

Early priority ticket sales for JCFC Owners begin Saturday, March 5.   Tickets sales open to the public Wednesday, March 9.

JCFC Owners Meet & Greet Potluck!

Come meet your fellow Owners, enjoy a nosh, and show off your favorite dish.

The JC Food Co-Op is excited to announce our first Owners Meet & Greet Potluck. We’ll be meeting up next Saturday, March 5th, for a night of shared dishes, cherished recipes, and good company. Plus, we’ll be announcing exciting info about the next phase of the Jersey City Food Co-op! If you have questions about shifts, committees, how to order or almost anything else, the Meet & Greet is a great opportunity to find answers in a less formal setting.

The party is what we’re calling a Bring Your Own Buffet, so please contribute a favorite dish, salad, or at least a favorite bottle.
Oh, and this is a family-friendly event, so feel free to bring the kids.
